Planning Built Around Your Business

PROTECTION

Key Person Life Insurance

If an owner or key employee passes away, the business can lose revenue, relationships and know-how all at once. Key person coverage is designed to:

  • Provide capital to the business if an owner or key person passes away

  • Help cover payroll, rent, debt and operating costs during a transition

  • Give you time to recruit, reassure customers and steady the business

SUCCESSION & BUY-OUT

Buy-Sell / Ownership Transition

A buy-sell agreement spells out what happens to an owner's share. Life insurance is one common way to help fund it. Planning can:

  • Help fund a buy-sell agreement between partners or owners

  • Support an orderly hand-off to partners, family members or employees

  • Help keep the business in the right hands and protect your legacy

INCOME & INJURY

Owner & Key Employee Protection

For many owners, the bigger risk isn't death but an illness or injury that keeps them off the job. Protection options include:

  • Disability income insurance: helps replace part of your income if illness or injury keeps you from working

  • Accident insurance: pays cash benefits for covered injuries

  • Critical illness insurance: pays cash benefits on diagnosis of a covered illness

  • Executive bonus and owner benefits: a way to reward and retain your top people

Supplemental and limited-benefit plans are a supplement to, not a substitute for, major medical coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my business too small for this kind of planning?

No. Smaller businesses often depend most heavily on one or two people, which makes continuation planning especially important. We work with solo owners, partnerships and growing teams.

What is a buy-sell agreement, and where does insurance fit in?

A buy-sell agreement is a legal contract between owners that spells out what happens to an owner's share if they die, become disabled or leave. Your attorney drafts the agreement. Insurance is one common way to help fund it. We work alongside your legal and tax advisors.

What's the difference between key person coverage and disability income insurance?

Key person life insurance generally pays the business if a key person passes away. Disability income insurance is designed to help replace part of a person's income if illness or injury keeps them from working. Many owners look at both.

Do accident or critical illness plans replace my health insurance?

No. Accident and critical illness plans are supplemental, limited-benefit plans. They pay cash benefits for covered events, and they're a supplement to, not a substitute for, major medical coverage.

Will this plan reduce my taxes?

Tax treatment depends on your specific situation and how a plan is structured. We don't give tax or legal advice, so please review any plan with your CPA or attorney. We're happy to coordinate with them.
